Our team of staff are warm, approachable, and care deeply for all of the students at Tolcarne.
Who we are:
Ange Rathbone, our Director of Boarding, lives on site with her family. She oversees the operations of the hostel and plays a big part in day to day activities at Tolcarne. Ange especially enjoys catching up with all of the girls at breakfast and dinner time and looks forwards to her weekly meetings with the Head Boarders.
Robyn McGarry and Ziggy Hill are our Junior and Senior Deans. They work closely with the girls, providing nurturing pastoral care. Robyn and Ziggy with the support of the other hostel staff, facilitate Tribe activities, ‘Koru’ (our wellbeing programme), the Tolcarne Council, prep and tutorials, weekend activities, our Boarding Leader Programme, yoga, baking and crafts, the 'flexi prep' creative activities, dinner swaps, our Junior Social, Tolcarne trips and year level gatherings.
We have an Office Administrator and Health Centre Manager who is the first port of call if the girls aren’t feeling well, providing motherly health care and support. The school guidance counsellor and chaplain also drop by regularly, to offer extra pastoral support and guidance for the girls.
Our Catering Manager and her brilliant team provide nutritious, well-balanced, and of course, delicious meals. They’re happy to cater to individual dietary requirements, ensuring absolutely every student has the opportunity to eat well.
Our Property Manager’s goal is to keep Tolcarne’s facilities and grounds world class. He also oversees the incredible cleaning team and ensures Tolcarne as a facility, is operating smoothly on a daily basis.
'It is the people'
There is a wonderful Māori Whakatauki that is 'alive' at Tolcarne.
“He aha te mea nui o te ao
What is the most important thing in the world?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata
It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.”
